Travel agents and tour operators are offering cheap package holidays departing in the next two weeks, as the industry waits to find out whether the testing regime for fully vaccinated arrivals in the UK will be eased this month.

The UK government is expected to announce an easing of Covid restrictions in England today, which will expire on January 26th. The measures likely to be dropped include the requirement for compulsory face coverings, advice to work from home, Covid passes for large events, and a drop of the ‘Day 2’ antigen tests for those that are fully vaccinated – or under 18 – arriving in England.

So, ahead of the possible reduction in measures and in a bid to limit their losses on winter breaks, many tour operators are selling spare trips departing in the coming weeks, at extremely low prices.

TUI is selling one-week package holidays to selected destinations for as little as £162 per person. The price includes flights, baggage, transfers, and accommodation. Holiday provider Jet2 is also offering low-cost package trips departing this weekend for just £184 each. This deal also includes flights, accommodation, and transfers but has an even larger baggage allowance as part of the deal. Lastly, Love Holidays has breaks from just £73 per person – so is well worth a look!

Despite most financial elements of a package holiday being protected under the Package Regulations Act, travellers should still protect their holidays with a suitable travel insurance policy, even if the break is relatively low-cost.

Travel insurance protection will vary from provider to provider, so it is important that travellers take the time to shop around and read each provider’s policy wordings to find the cover most suitable for their trip. We’d also recommend looking out for a policy or extension that offers cover against Covid-19, just in case the trip should be affected by the coronavirus in any way.
