A study into how Brits plan their holidays has revealed millions of us book our holiday just hours before heading to the airport.
The research, commissioned by ATOL, showed a staggering 3 million of us wait until the day of departure to book a holiday, a trend backed by ABTA’s own research which found 26% of holidaymakers they surveyed prefer to book closer to their departure dates.
With summer fast approaching most of us will have already secured our holiday plans and brought travel insurance, but those looking to head online or to the travel agent for a last-minute deal shouldn’t overlook the protection offered by travel insurance…
As it is a last minute get away it is very unlikely you will need to cancel the trip therefore it may not be necessary to include cancellation cover in your travel insurance policy. That said, the majority of travel insurers who exclude cancellation will also exclude curtailment, meaning if you need to cut short your trip you will not be covered.
There are some travel insurance policies that will allow you to exclude cover for cancellation but still keep curtailment cover so if you are off on a last-minute break this may be something to look out for.
